Autumn is upon us! Which means new bike catalogues are all battling to show off their new shiney additions for 2017. The Bike Institute have just got the new Giant Stock 2017 line in (well, as much as we can fit in our shop) and of course is online to buy, peruse and drool over. There’s tons of new stuff which I can’t go into here but going to do my best to highlight the changes. So, let’s dive straight in shall we?
What’s New – Road
What’s causing ripples in the road community is the new Giant TCR Disc (3 versions) range that has done a blinder and kept its braking geometry. The TCR range are all high performance bikes but with it’s super stiffness and flat mounted disc brakes that are completely integrated into the bike design, these premium racers give you super faster cycling with total control. (Think of what a hydraulics brake can do when you’re flying down eye watering descents.) The entire TCR Disc range are a win-win for those looking at the high end racers. The TCR Advanced 1 comes with Advanced-grade composite frame with with lots of nice bits including Shimano Ultegra and is available now at TBI.
Always popular is the Giant 2017 Defy which is back with new extras including the integrated disc range plus a snazzy new colourway. The new Contend range has replaced the more economical Defy alloy bikes and are perfect for an entry level road bike, with the Contend 2 starting at only €700.
Cyclocross & Trail
In cyclocross what stands out is the new 2017 TCX range that offers lots of diversity to suit different riders and budgets. The serious value TCX SLR 2 comes with a superlight ALUXX SLR aluminum frame, matched with a composite fork and 12mm front and rear thru-axles. TCX SLR offers entry level riders smooth, confident handling on all types of terrain and its Disc-brake technology boosts control on tight CX courses or wide-open dirt road descents. With symmetrical chainstays to add pedaling stiffness, and the D-Fuse seatpost to help smooth out rough terrains, this a great value bike for anyone interested in starting out on cyclocross.
New in 2017 Giant MTB is the hard tailed Fathom that is a great all-rounder with modest price tag to boot. Perfect for aspiring trail riders that Fathom has a more forgiving geometry but is well suited for modern mountain trails. Features include ALUXX SL-grade aluminum frame Shimano SLX 1×11-speed drivetrain with Shimano hydraulic disc brakes. Plus it’s cousin the 27.5 Fathom is available with a dropper post and available from under 1000€.
Best Of The Rest Giant 2017
I haven’t mentioned Women’s LIV road bikes yet as they are coming in another post but expect an all new colourway scheme and entire new range that is less pink and white than previous years.
This year 2017 Giant ebikes are combining innovative technology and integrated design and taking electronic bikes to new insane futurism levels. Read more about what’s new in 2017 here.
All the Giant 2017 commuter, city and hybrid bikes all come with new colour scheme with many interesting editions including the Contend (road) and the FastRoad(trail hybrid) that are solid entry level bikes that are perfectly adaptable for road and city use, or (dare I say it) a little bit of fitness.
